Eliminate PennDOT's reason(s) for the suspension.
Eliminate indefinite suspensions by doing what you didn't do.
If there are tickets to which you failed to respond to, respond. But be careful! You should respond by pleading "Not Guilty" unless you are absolutely certain that the penalty for the citation(s) you are responding to will not be points and/or suspension.
If you have outstanding fines because you were already found guilty, pay them off. Again, be careful! Paying off a fine will eliminate the indefinite suspension but may result in a term suspension depending on the penalty for the underlying conviction. If you can not pay them off at once, most courts will allow you to enter into a payment plan. If you have a payment plan, you must stay on it or your license will be suspended again. And, if that is why you were suspended, reinstate the payment plan.
Eliminate Term Suspensions:
If you have a term suspension, you were probably convicted of one or more traffic tickets. To eliminate the conviction(s), you must file an appeal. This appeal is completely separate from the PennDOT appeal mentioned in Step One. Through this appeal, you are appealing the conviction(s), which caused PennDOT to issue the suspension(s).
Generally speaking, you only have thirty days to appeal a conviction. Of course there are exceptions to this rule. To determine if you qualify for one of the exceptions, you should contact an experienced and knowledgeable attorney.
If you file a timely appeal, you will be given a new court date and you will have another chance to fight your ticket(s). You do not get this chance at the PennDOT appeal hearing. Sometimes it is necessary to postpone the PennDOT hearing to allow you more time to fight your ticket.
If all else fails, you can always serve your suspension(s). You may even qualify for an Occupational Limited License, a "bread and butter" license, which will allow you to drive back and forth to work. You can download a fact sheet from PennDOT or speak with an experienced and knowledgeable attorney to determine whether or not you qualify.
